CD & Tāmaki Makaurau retain Māori National Tournament titles
By NZC Friday 07 February 2025, 05:00 pm

Central Districts Māori Wāhine and Tāmaki Makaurau Tāne will keep their trophy cabinets well stocked this winter, defending both of their titles at the 2025 Māori National Tournaments.

Central Districts were able to chase down Te Whanganui-a-Tara’s total of 95 runs in the wāhine grand final to keep their grasp on the Rona McKenzie Taonga.

Macy Lyford (3-9) emerged as the top performer with the ball for Central Districts, before the experienced pairing of Georgia Atkinson (41*) and Kerry Tomlinson (34*) guided the team home.

Tāmaki Makaurau Tāne ended their campaign in emphatic fashion today, recording a 10-wicket victory over Northern Māori.

Josh Olliver (115* off 41 balls) put together a breath-taking innings, consisting of 20 boundaries, to help chase down ND’s total in just the 13th over.

Olliver was well supported by fellow opener Nathan Robinson (67*), who played a valuable supporting role in the 190-run opening stand.

Te Whanganui-a-Tara Tāne, led by in-form bat Oscar Wilson, finished as runner-up in the tāne competition – capping off a successful week for the Wellingtonians.

NZC would like to extend a big thank you to players and support staff for making the weekend an amazing celebration of all things Maori Cricket.

Thanks must also go to Howick Pakuranga Cricket Club and ground staff for their valued support throughout the tournament.
