A rain day calls end to an exhilarating week of cricket in Lincoln - Christ’s College emerging as Gillette Cup champions for the first time in their school history.

They also retain the Heathcote Williams Shield, and will look to defend it in their first home interschool of 2023.

Christ’s proved themselves as the team to beat, going unbeaten through four matches thanks to a complete team effort throughout tournament.

Tournament MVP Tim Seeto and captain Nick Gibb both finished in the top 5 run-scorers – Seeto (311 runs) finishing 79 runs ahead of Zac Cumming (OBHS) in second place.

Seeto (160 runs) & Gibb (125 runs) enjoyed a record 276-run partnership in their first match against Mount Albert Grammar – the highest partnership ever scored at Gillette Cup nationals.

Opener Matt Lewis contributed valuable runs at the top for Christ’s – striking at 136.7, as well as grabbing a handful of wickets.

Fast bowler Ben Breitmeyer led the way for the Christ’s College bowling unit, finishing as 5th= top wicket-taker on 8 wickets.

Spin bowlers Matthew Hocquard and Hamish Falls-Anderson proved miserly – finishing 8th= on 6 wickets apiece, and Hocquard claiming the best economy rate for all bowlers.

Wicketkeeper George Ryan finished with the most wicketkeeper dismissals (10), while Tim Seeto finished with the most run outs (2).

New Zealand Cricket would like to thank all players, parents and coaches for a great week of cricket.

NZC also extend a big thank you to all tournament officials, groundstaff and Lincoln University for providing a first-class experience for the players.
