Christ’s College 111/3 (T Seeto 44*, M Lewis 32, M Hocquard 2-22, H Falls-Anderson 2-9) beat Otago Boys’ High School (O Thode 34, H Wilson 25, B Stephens 2-16), Lincoln Green

Christ’s College continued their run of fine form today, claiming a 7-wicket victory over Otago Boys’ High School, and retaining the Heathcote Williams Shield.

With no home games left to play in the tournament, Christ’s will look to defend the Heathcote Williams Shield at their next home interschool fixture in 2023.

Bowling first, Christ’s College were able to maintain pressure on the Otago Boys’ batting line up, thanks to early wickets from seam bowlers Jordan Braithwaite, Matt Lewis and off-spinner Matthew Hocquard. Year 12 student Hocquard (2-22) showed his value to the team, taking the key wickets of Oliver Thode (34 runs), and the in-form Zac Cumming.

Christ’s change bowlers continued to apply the pressure, led by Tom Harrison (2-23) and Hamish Falls-Anderson (2-9), eventually bowling OBHS out for 108 runs. Hamish Wilson (24) ensuring the southeners had something to bowl at.

The College opening pair wasted no time in their response, racing to 68 runs before the loss of Matt Lewis (32). Two quick wickets from medium pacer Ben Stephens (2-16) gave Otago Boys’ some hope – but it was to be dashed by the form batsman of tournament, Tim Seeto (44*), who expertly steered his team home in the 22nd over.

Hutt International Boys’ School 275/6 (J Gaskin 116, L Bailey 45, J Gaskin 3-33, S Rawat 3-53) beat Napier Boys’ High School (C Pawson 44, C Geange 43, J Cotter 2-47), Bert Sutcliffe Oval

Hutt International Boys’ record their second win of tournament, on the back of a man-of-the match performance from Jack Gaskin.

Batting first on the Bert Sutcliffe Oval, HIBS were able to control the tempo of their innings thanks to a classy century from No.3 batsman Gaskin (116*), including 9 x fours and 4 x sixes. He enjoyed two 80+ run partnerships with Lachie Bailey (45) and Connor Gatward (34), helping set HIBS up for a very competitive 275/6.

Seamers Jacob Cotter (2-47) and Hamish James (1-30) were the pick of the Napier bowlers, who struggled to take regular wickets throughout the innings. NBHS hit an early roadblock in response - losing early wickets courtesy of off-spinner Will Spice (2-13)

Cotter (32) and Charlie Pawson (44) set about rebuilding a platform, compiling 66 runs before man-of-the-hour, Gaskin was thrown the ball, and managed to break the partnership. Gaskin (3-33) and spinner Soham Rawat (3-53) both going on to take 3 wickets apiece.

Middle-order batsman Charlie Geange (43) and Zach Forster (30) both fought tooth and nail for NBHS, but it was HIBS who emerged on top – winning by 80 runs.

Tauranga Boys College 237/10 (H Patel 53, B Syme 46, H Patel 2-39, L Keaney 2-35) beat Mount Albert Grammar 235/10 (L Swain 71, O Patel 65, P Mistry 4-32), Lincoln No.3

A final-over thriller played out between Tauranga Boys’ and Mount Albert Grammar on Lincoln No.3, in what was arguably match of the tournament.

Batting first, Tauranga Boys’ managed to put up a competitive 237 runs, thanks to a handful of contributions from middle order batsmen Harsh Patel (53), Billy Syme (46) and Sam Clode (33).

TBC captain Darcy Collett (33*) seemed to have the latter overs under control, until MAGS off-spinner, Priyam Mistry (4-32), bagged four wickets on the bounce – and removing all of Collett’s batting partners.

MAGS’ chase got off on the wrong foot, losing early wickets thanks to TBC’s Riley Brady (2-37), Loughlin Keaney (2-35) and Collett (2-38). No. 5 batsman Ohm Patel (65) played a vital knock for his team – partnering with Lukasz Swain to get their side to 183 when Patel was dismissed.

Swain (71) continued the momentum, whopping 5 x fours and 2 x sixes on his was to a half-century, and getting his team down to requiring just 4 runs off the final over.

Harsh Patel (2-29) and TBC held their nerve - Harsh removing Swain on the first ball of the over, and TBC securing a run out on the fourth ball – TBC win by two runs.
