Wellington College secured their second win of the Junior Secondary Boys’ Finals thanks to another team effort throughout both innings. Bowling first, five of their bowlers picked up a wicket, led by Thomas Hughson (3-23) who picked up three. Luke McNally again had a strong showing for NBHS, top scoring with 44 runs, and leading in wickets in the second innings (3-14). Wellington College were led by Shivam Mistry (33) with the bat, while four other batters finished with scores of 10+ to see WC home in the 33rd over.
John McGlashan College 198 all out off 37.7 overs (H McDonald 65, J O’Connor 3-39) lost to St Andrew’s College 199-8 off 38.2 overs (S Hair 50, T Simpson 3-32), Manawaroa Park
John McGlashan College bounced back strongly on day two, posting a competitive 198-10 batting first at Manawaroa Park. Led by Harry McDonald’s half-century (65) and Jack O’Connor’s quickfire 38 runs off 25 balls, only a flurry of late wickets from St Andrew’s College stopped JMC from posting 200+. The total was not to be enough, however, as two 50+ run partnerships at the top of the STAC batting order set them up for a close victory. Spencer Hair (50), Tom Simpson (39), and Ryan Bond (33) all provided valuable runs at the top, while the tail snuck home with 1.4 overs (and two wickets) to spare.
Auckland Grammar School 141-10 off 33.4 overs and 7-0 in Super Over (N Mackay 34, L Thomson 3-17) beat Tauranga Boys’ College 141-10 off 39.4 overs and 6-1 in Super Over (C Manning 43, C Manning 4-3), Fitzherbert Park 1
Auckland Grammar School have backed up their round one victory with a nerve-racking Super Over finish against Tauranga Boys’ College. In what was surely match of the round, AGS chased down a target of six runs in just three Super Over balls to claim victory. Earlier in the match, Noah Mackay (35) again impressed at the top of the AGS order, ably supported by fellow opener Jacob Burt (25), and Matauas Thomson (31) who helped push the total to 141-10. Ciarán Manning had a match to remember, coming on as Tauranga Boys’ eighth bowler to take 4 wickets (4-3), before top scoring in the second innings with 43 runs. Noah Mackay (1-8) backed up his efforts with the bat by taking a crucial 9th TBC wicket in the 39th over to give his team a chance, before Ben Lucas (1-3) became the hero by taking the 10th with just two balls remaining. Matauas & Luke Thomson the not out batters for AGS in the Super Over.
